We offer a sensitive, professional and expert approach in the treatment of neurological conditions.
We use the Bobath approach to treatment. This is a "hands on" approach, based on the therapist using their in-depth knowledge and analysis skills to accurately assess the movement disorder. Specialist handling techniques are used to encourage a corrected, more normal movement by lengthening short muscles, mobilising joints and re-aligning the body. Patients gradually learn to move more freely and more comfortably. The Bobath approach helps patients gain confidence and strength in movement by allowing them to practice in a safe and supervised environment.
It is well known that patients with Parkinson's Disease or Multiple Sclerosis benefit greatly from a personalised exercise programme devised by a specialist in neurological rehabilitation. Our specialist therapists will assess a patient's individual needs and devise an exercise programme to improve and maintain mobility, function and general activity. Our holistic approach, the hallmark of the care taken by therapists at Ilkley Physiotherapy, means that we are always happy to carry out treatments at home - so there's no need for patients to travel unnecessarily.
We specialise in providing paediatric care for many neurological conditions including cerebral palsy, neuromuscular conditions, head injuries, dyspraxia/developmental coordination disorders; assisting child development and various syndromes. We work closely with each child and their family to meet their realistic expectations and to maximise the potential of every child's social and physical lifestyle. Children respond when they're relaxed and having fun, and we think this is as important as the treatment itself.
Through our child-centred physiotherapy treatment, we aim to:
